Learning
Everything you need to know about the learning you'll complete as a volunteer.
How learning works
Learning at Scouts is organised as a Learning Tree. Growing Roots is the mandatory learning all volunteers complete when joining or taking on a new role. Branching Out is optional learning you can choose to develop your skills further, including working towards your Wood Badge.
You complete all Growing Roots learning online through My Learning. Your progress is tracked automatically.

Branching Out
Once you've completed Growing Roots, you can choose to continue your development through Branching Out. This includes working towards your Wood Badge, gaining permits and accreditations, and developing specialist skills. Branching Out is entirely optional and is being gradually rolled out during 2025–26.
